Inspiring Tomorrow’s Teachers Today

Tykes Teaching Alliance works in partnership with Exchange Teacher Training to deliver high-quality, school-led Initial Teacher Training (ITT) across South Yorkshire.

Our Partnership
Tykes Teaching Alliance collaborates with a range of SCITTs, School Direct partners, and multi-academy trusts to deliver a compelling vision for teacher training across Yorkshire and the Humber, the Northeast, and Lincolnshire. Delta Academies Trust was successfully accredited in Round 1 (May 2022), with a further 99 providers accredited in Round 2 (September 2022).

Our partnership is united by a shared moral purpose: improving the quality of education through great teaching. It encompasses over 200 placement schools, offering aspiring teachers diverse and high-quality school experiences.

Our Programme
Exchange Teacher Training offers an ambitious, evidence-informed programme designed to develop lifelong, reflective practitioners. Our teachers inspire the next generation and help improve the life chances of all learners.

Tykes Teaching Alliance now operates as a Lead Delivery Partner for Exchange Teacher Training. We provide local support and expertise in the Barnsley area, managing recruitment processes and coordinating placement opportunities in credible local schools. Trainees receive personalised feedback and support, ensuring their progress and well-being are at the heart of their training.

The Offer
Exchange Teacher Training provides both primary and secondary programmes. On successful completion, trainees gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with 60 Master’s-level credits.

The PGCE is delivered and awarded by Sheffield Hallam University, a nationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and learning.

Our curriculum is developed by outstanding serving school leaders in partnership with Evidence Based Education, using the Great Teaching Toolkit and Model for Great Teaching. Trainees experience a rich, evidence-based approach delivered by national and regional experts, equipping them with the skills to succeed in tomorrow’s classrooms and an ever-changing world.

Next Steps
Recruitment opens on 8th October 2025 for programmes starting in September 2026.
