Victoria Till
EYFS and KS1 Lead

Victoria Till is a tenacious and hardworking individual who always has the needs of her pupils at the heart of everything she does. She has led effective change in the EYFS unit and led a growing staff team to ensure positive outcomes for all. She is a confident and determined leader who inspires those around her with her positive attitude and proven track record in raising standards. She has led network days across her Trust in all elements of EYFS planning and teaching as well as assessment. Victoria has developed staff within school in terms of their leadership; working alongside our Phonics leader to ensure rapid and sustained progress across EYFS and KS1. She has also developed a culture and ethos which is bespoke for the unit she works in yet aligns with our school vision and core values. She works well with all stakeholders and leads all parental workshops throughout the school year. Her key knowledge and skills are undeniable and make her the perfect candidate to support people in any area of the curriculum.

Rachel Knox
Deputy Headteacher

Rachel is an experienced practitioner and Deputy Head Teacher at Gawber Primary School. She has experience of teaching throughout the primary phase; however, specialises in UKS2. Rachel specialises in the teaching of English and has been the Lead Moderator for Barnsley LA for the last few years. Rachel has supported schools and individuals in a number of areas with a focus on raising the standards of teaching and learning.

Suzanne Gayton
Associate Director of Mathematics

Suzanne is an outstanding and experienced secondary practitioner who is currently an Associate Director of Mathematics for Northern Education Trust. Currently based at Kirk Balk Academy in Barnsley, Suzanne’s role enables her to support and develop the Mathematics Departments at Academies within the Trust. As part of the wider Mathematics Director team, Suzanne continues to implement change in order to raise standards. Suzanne’s previous roles include Second in Department and Head of Department at Maltby Academy in Rotherham before becoming Head of Department then a Subject Director for Northern Education Trust. Having taught for 15 years, Suzanne has a passion for teaching and learning and a strong track record of improving results through strong curriculum design, quality first wave teaching and intervention bespoke to student’s needs.  

Sam Garrood
Assistant Headteacher

Sam is an Assistant Head Teacher at Mapplewell Primary school who has a wealth of knowledge from his time spent teaching in Year 5 and 6. In two years of teaching Year 6 through SATS exams, Sam has led both cohorts to exam results that have been within the top 1% of the country for progress made. He has a keen interest in Mathematics and loves to work with practitioners to give them the confidence to teach the subject knowledge and skills in a varied and engaging way. With five years of experience of teaching in inner city London, Sam has a broad range of experiences to draw from and share with other leaders and teachers.  

 

Ross Taylor
Assistant Head Teacher  

Ross is an experienced practitioner and Assistant Head Teacher at Mapplewell Primary School who has taught across both KS1 and KS2. Ross’ particular areas of expertise as an SLE are in reading and writing, in his current role at Mapplewell Primary school he leads on literacy, data and moderation. Ross has a clear understanding of how to create both a reading and writing culture within school and enjoys working with schools and individuals to help raise the standards in these areas. With over 10 years’ experience of teaching across South Yorkshire, Ross has breadth of experiences to draw from.  

Richard Whitfield
Associate Principal

Richard is a highly experienced Associate Principal for Northern Education Trust based at Kirk Balk Academy in Barnsley. Richard has over 15 years of experience working in the education sector, with the vast majority of that time spent working in Barnsley. As SLE for leadership of the curriculum Richard has a wealth of knowledge in the construction and implementation of highly effective curriculum models. In addition Richard is an SLE for leadership of CPD, ITT and NQT development and via his wider work within Northern Education Trust he currently leads the deployment and implementation of the Early Career Framework, Schools-Direct ITT recruitment and delivery of National Professional Qualifications for academies across the North of England. Richard has prior experience as an advanced skills teacher, as subject leader of Mathematics and he also sits on the local governing body of the Barnsley Primary partnership where he has a focus on Quality of Education.       

 

 

Rachael Cook
Science Lead, Curriculum Development, ITT Mentor

Rachael has been a science lead for the past 7 years. During this time, she has raised the profile of science through implementing whole school projects including STEM weeks and science competitions, as well as linking with local STEM businesses to inspire and enthuse pupils. Rachael has formed and led an ENTHUSE Partnership for science with other local primary schools and is currently Deputy Lead of an ENTHUSE Partnership formed by Horizon CC, working with 10 primary schools to develop science teaching and learning. Rachael is an accredited STEM Associate Facilitator and delivers STEM courses on behalf of STEM Learning and the ENTHUSE Partnerships. In school, Rachael has carefully developed a science curriculum which focuses on clear end points, vocabulary and scientific skills, and has integrated this into the science curriculum offer. She has worked with and supported colleagues within school and beyond to develop teaching and learning in science. Rachael has also been a Curriculum Development Lead for the past 3 years, supporting SLT and subject leaders to form progressive long term plans for each non-core curriculum subject. Rachael is also an ITT mentor for Schools Direct and PGCE Students. She has recently completed the NPQSL qualification.

Nicola Jahangir
Associate Director of Science

Nicola is an outstanding and experienced secondary practitioner who is currently an Associate Director of Science for Northern Education Trust. Currently based at Kirk Balk Academy in Barnsley, Nicola’s role enables her to support and develop the science departments at academies within the Trust. As part of the wider science director team, Nicola continues to implement change in order to raise standards. Her previous roles include leader of KS3 and KS4 science, 2nd in Science and Head of Science. 22 years teaching experience in Rotherham and Barnsley has enabled her to help shape future science teachers through supportive guidance and mentoring. Her passion for quality first science teaching and vast knowledge of the curriculum, allows for pupils to be inspired, motivated and ultimately become successful in science. Furthermore, Nicola also facilitates seminars for Teach First and delivers training to specialist and non-specialist science teachers within Northern Education Trust. 

Natalie Whitehouse
Director of Teaching and Learning

As Director of Teaching and learning, Natalie works closely with schools to implement change and raise standards and improve outcomes across HCAT. She has extensive experience in the classroom, particularly KS2 and over the past five years she has continually raised outcomes in Y6 in various schools. Natalie has a passion for teaching and learning and this is reflected through her innovative ideas that supports, challenges and gives all children to reach their potential. She is recognised as an Apple Distinguished Educator through her use of effective ICT that enhances learning in the classroom making it deeply personal for all.  

 

Jodie Douglas
Year 6 Teacher & Maths Specialist 

Jodie is an outstanding teacher with a passion for Mathematics, and ensuring every child is challenged, and supported to make progress and build confidence. She has been teaching for 6 years and has experience of working across KS1 and KS2. Her current roles at Worsbrough Common Primary School are: Year 6 lead; Co-Maths lead; and P.E team member.  In addition to this, Jodie has mentored PGCE students ensuring they are equipped with the skills required to be an outstanding, engaging, and supportive teacher. She has also mentored ITT students for Tykes TSA offering extra CPD and support for the areas of the Maths curriculum where their subject knowledge needs further developing.
