Professional support staff in schools play an increasingly important role in supporting effective teaching and learning in and out of the classroom.
All members of a school’s workforce contribute to student standards of achievement therefore, we aim to make sure that support staff have the same opportunities as qualified teaching staff for professional development.
If you are a teaching assistant, supporting teaching and learning within the classroom, this programme is an excellent professional development opportunity for you. The programme will help you to prepare a portfolio of evidence to show you’re meeting these standards.

The HETA programme is for teaching assistants who are, or who have the potential to be outstanding in their roles. It is intended to develop the potential for teaching assistants to have a wider impact on improving the quality of teaching and learning across the school.
