Understanding Autism session is designed for anyone whose role may bring them into day to day contact with children with a diagnosis of Autism. It introduces Autism Spectrum Disorders and gives participants a greater understanding to identify Autism characteristics. Participants will learn about the specific characteristics of a person with Autism and have the opportunity to understand the unique way in which they experience the world, focusing on the core Autism difficulties in Social Interaction, Communication, Imagination, together with sensory and environmental difficulties. This will lead to a better understanding of Autism and seeing the world from the point of view of the Individual
Following the understanding of Autism the Toolbox is for staff to be able to identify a range of strategies to reduce barriers and promote effective teaching and learning for children with social communication difficulties.
